| My current work reflects my ongoing interest in mandalas. The use of circles in different cultures, circles found in nature, and manmade circles intrigue me. This interest has led me to explore the mandala in my own art work; both in a structured way and abstractly.
In August, 2006 I spent a month as an artist in residence at the Burren College of Art. I produced a series of small mandalas that charted my daily meditations before beginning to work in my studio. Using found objects and mixed media I included the circle in a series of pieces that speak of the haunting landscape of the Burren. I investigated the abundant ring forts and tombs found in County Clare and the Aran Islands. The ruins of these ancient structures captivated me. I am working on a series of mixed media pieces that incorporate the circle as evocative of grounding, stabilizing and centering (as in the manmade structures) while at once promoting the flow of energy and movement evidenced in the nature of the Burren and the spiritual realm.
